Some final purchases for my big hike with Elizabeth Gillis - bear spray, whistles and fixings for trail mix, including high quality chocolate chips and gummy bears. Also, had my fake blue finger nails taken off. No manicures for the next six weeks!

Day 26 – Hiking Day 23 – Sunday October 1 2017 Dufferin Highlands Section K23.9  8 th Sideroad to Caledon Hills Section K0.00 Mono 8 Distance – 24.37 k Time  - 6:35 Our hike today was….dare I say it….relatively easy compared to what we have experienced on other sections of the trail. We started off in a planted forest and walked between the straight lines of the trees. Fortunately it was very well blazed and there was no chance of us getting lost. The golden base of needles made the footing soft and spongy which was bliss to our well worn feet. We continued through forests, along the side of streams, and across meadows. We also crossed 3 steep sided ravines which meant a careful descent and a good hill work out on the ascent, times 3!! Day 5 - Hiking Day 5 - Sunday September 10, 2017 Peninsula Section  K 82.5 Bruin Street, Lions Bay Harbour  to West of K 53.6 - Cape Dundas Parking Area located on private property at the end of Scenic Caves Rd. plus side trail Distance: 29.91 k  Time on the trail: 9:43 Today was all about the “light”. We started off in a beautiful deciduous forest. The light of the sun shone through the trees creating an atmosphere of joy. It seemed as if we were walking through a golden forest.  The underbrush too shone in the filtered sunlight.  As on previous days we walked out on the edge of the cliffs high above the lake walking on rocky, rooted paths where we clung to the inner side of the trail because on the other you would plunge to your death. Day 14 – Rest Day 2 - Tuesday September 19 2017 Bliss!!! A sleep in! It was a real treat not to have to wake up to the alarm at 6:30 a.m. We were out of bed by 8:30 a.m. and at breakfast by 9:00 a.m for a delicious breakfast of cheesy eggs (done like coddled eggs), cheese bread, and fresh tomatoes….and coffee!! After breakfast we took a walk around the amazing mansion that we had been staying in. Paul, one of the hosts, spent about an hour with us after breakfast telling us about the history of the mansion, the families who lived there and Owen Sound. Fascinating pieces of information about the design and building of the house in 1872, Miss Moore’s Maternity Hospital from 1919 to 1940 where over 2000 babies were born, up to 2001 when he and Linda bought the home and opened it as a B and B.
