ADDENDUM AND DEDICATION
This post is written for Robin without
whom I would never have had the Bruce Trail adventure, and as a summary of some of the
memories we will retain from our hike:
Robin:
Aristotle said that a friend is “a single soul dwelling in two
bodies” and for me the highlight of our "43 days with Bruce” was your
companionship.
Through all the ups and downs, nothing tore us apart. We knew the
truth that the strength, commitment, and perseverance of one of us was crucial
to the other. We shared everything “50/50”. I admire the knowledge and the global aspect you brought to our discussions. I loved our ability to open our
minds and examine things from different perspectives, for example: hiking in
our “time warp”, wondering how we got to the place that the land which is our
gift from the Universe is treated like a human commodity, and bought and sold
and barricaded with high barbed wire or electric fences with “keep out” signs;
our “middle earth forests,” our “cedar bones forests,” our "boulder fields," and
our walks along “the top of nothing”. I loved our gratitude for the
beauty of the trees, the aqua waters, the rock formations, the snakes, the
birds, the frogs, the toads, the squirrels, the butterflies, the wildflowers
and fungi, even the gnarly rock and mossy boulders!!
We appreciate the Bruce Trail Conservancy and its dedication to creating the trail, and the volunteers for blazing it consistently so we didn't get lost.

And, we had so much fun along the way, including: the waffles with
cream, ice cream, peaches and a cherry in Lions Head; the race-car ride we had
in the taxi in Orangeville; our "freedom run" down the hill only to
realize we had missed the blazes and had to trudge back up almost to the top; the
“candy-assed” hikers carrying our Tim’s and the bee sting; our stop at Detour Café in
Dundas; the day we skidded through the mud at Bognor Marsh
laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes; and the “Cabernet Franc“ at the
Honsberger Estate Winery - our reward!
I admire your courage to get to the “start” and your
perseverance to arrive at the “finish”…..running!!! Love, respect, and trust
are things we share. Thank you for choosing me to be your companion on the
Bruce Trail. You are the best hiking partner ever!
I will always care about you, and hope our long friendship will
never end. With love, fond memories, much admiration, and dreams of future
adventures!! Elizabeth xxx
PS: Hope you enjoy the "memory book!”
