We set off on the hike today with fresh, rested legs. Within the first two minutes we headed straight up the Escarpment! The steep climbs aside, it was a lovely easy hike going around the Loree Forest, then up onto the Escarpment and travelling along past all the ski clubs: Georgian Peaks, Alpine, Craigleith, and Blue Mountain. We had great views down over the Town of Two Mountains and Collingwood. Then it was down into the forests of The Scenic Caves and through all their snow-shoe and cross country ski gentle ups and downs and along their cushy, soft, paths. We passed by the Osler Ski Club and entered the Petun Conservation Area where the Petun People lived. They were decimated by smallpox in the 1600s and then eventually wiped out by the Senecca. We ended up in the Pretty River Valley Provincial Park where a few kilometers from the end we met Ray! Thank you Ray for bringing us safely home at the end of a wonderful walk. In this Park we forded many small rivers balancing on the slippy stones and praying we didn’t dunk our brand new hiking boots in the water. We travelled in between two rivers and marveled at their confluence. Where yesterday we had the sound of crunching leaves, today we had the sound of burbling brooks!!

Along the way just when we thought we had left all the “Bruce Trail Rock” behind, we entered a really gnarly section with moss covered rocks and deep crevices and our pace slowed to a crawl!  However, mostly we were in the most fabulous forests, tall trees, and light shining through. It was much cooler! Thank goodness!! We even had a few rain drops that were just enough to keep our skin cool.

We ate in tonight and now I am off to bed.

Running the last day was a perfect idea! It felt so good not to have the weight of hiking boots nor a pack nor poles! We felt free and strong. The route was kind to us. We ran along the side of the canal, past the edge of the golf course…we actually tried to run on the golf course cart paths but when we got some really strange looks from a group of golfers we realized we were on the wrong route and went back to find the blazes….then it was up to the top of the Escarpment (yes, a steep climb, but the Escarpment is only about 200 ft high here, so

It was full rain gear. It was only raining very slightly when we set off and continued to rain lightly on and off all day. When we finished, there was a much bigger downpour. We were lucky once again! Temperature was cool, 6C to 12C. Today was a beautiful hike. We started out at the base of the Glen Eden Ski Hill in the Kelso Conservation Area and slowly climbed up onto the top of the Escarpment passing some old lime kilns on the way. Day 29 – Hiking Day 25 – Wednesday October 4 2017 Caledon Hills Section K44.3 5 Sideroad to Toronto Section K  16.0 Willoughby Road Distance –  28.98 Time  - 7:30 Jock drove us to the start point for today, a mere 6 minutes from the B & B. We were prepared for rain and decided to split the odds: I put my rain jacket on, Robin left hers off. We reckoned that we had a 50/50 chance of having to stop to either take my jacket off, or to put Robin’s on. I lost. We stopped very shortly after the sun came out and I took it off!!  That said, the sky did dither between opening up and dropping a bucket over us or moving the black clouds along and bringing out the sun. It wasn’t until we were almost finished that we put our rain jackets on again, and were sprinkled with rain as we walked along. However, when we got back to the B & B, it poured. Nice timing!!
