We had some lovely walks today along country roads with cattle and
farmers fields on either side. We loved in particular the secluded fields which we walked along the side of surrounded by beautiful wild flowers such as purple
wild aster, daisies, and yellow goldenrod. We passed through another wetland,
several waterfalls, and some amazing forests. Towards the end of the day we had
some enormous steep climbs up the west side of the Beaver Valley and then
walked across the hill wishing we had one leg longer than the other at the
bottom of the white escarpment rock. And, of course the Bruce is always
challenging, so in the last 3 k we had one last steep climb up masses of wooden
steps, then across the hill, down the side of some fields, and out to the car
park to meet Ray. He wasn’t there. Our faces dropped! However, when I called
him he was waiting just down the road….and arrived in a flash to pick up two tired hikers.
As we emerged from the car in the morning, Ken and Margaret, two hikers
doing the trail just a day or two ahead of us bounced out of the forest beside
us. We passed them and they passed us a few times before they headed of the
trail. They are starting much earlier than we are and so are finished earlier
too.
The day was hot and sunny and temperatures reached 27 with humidity
taking it up over 30. We have been so lucky so far with hardly any rain. We
know of two police who hiked earlier in the year and it rained on then just
about every day. What a different hike theirs must have been to ours.
Tonight we are at Pat and Richards. They were so good to us feeding us
heartily with pre-appetisers, appetizers, and a delicious salmon dinner
followed by apple crumble, ice cream, and blackberries. We are very grateful
for the Aromatherapy bubble bath, and the Sea Salt healing gel! And, of course,
the loving care they have shown us.
